Odoo vs SAP Business One
SAP Business One and Odoo cover similar ground. The difference is that Odoo includes apps beyond ERP, such as CRM, website and eCommerce, in one system, while SAP Business One is a particularly natural fit where the parent company already runs SAP.
We are an Odoo Silver Partner, so read with that in mind. The section on when to choose SAP Business One is written as seriously as the one for Odoo.

Five questions that decide it
Do you need apps beyond ERP in the same system?
If you want CRM, website, online store or HR in the same database as accounting and stock, Odoo has them in one system. If you already run specialist tools you are happy with, this matters less.
Does your parent company run SAP?
Subsidiaries of SAP-run groups often choose SAP Business One to make reporting and integration with the parent easier. That is a good reason to choose SAP, even where Odoo could run the subsidiary itself.
Who will maintain and change the system?
Both rely on partners. Look at who makes changes, how much your own team can do, and how hard it would be to switch partners later.
What IT do you already run?
SAP Business One runs on SAP HANA or Microsoft SQL Server; Odoo uses PostgreSQL and has a cloud option run by Odoo. If you do not want to run servers, compare the cloud options on both sides.
What is the five-year total cost?
Do not compare first-year licences only. Add implementation, customisation, yearly support, servers and version upgrades over five years, and ask partners on both sides for figures in the same format.
Which one fits?
Choose Odoo if
- You want CRM, website, eCommerce or HR in the same system as ERP
- You want clearly published per-user pricing
- You want to adapt workflows yourself with Studio or modules
- You are not tied to a parent company's systems
Choose SAP Business One if
- Your parent company or group already runs SAP
- Your IT team has SAP or Microsoft SQL Server expertise
- An SAP partner serves your industry with specialist extensions
- Major customers or partners require SAP
Common questions
Can we move from SAP Business One to Odoo?
Yes. Master data and opening balances usually move, while history stays viewable in the old system. The most time usually goes into reviewing workflows and the add-ons you rely on, and deciding how each works in Odoo.
How do we compare price fairly?
Ask for quotes with the same scope, the same number of users and five years of support. Odoo's plan prices are on odoo.com; SAP Business One is quoted through partners.
Do both support multiple companies?
Odoo supports multiple companies on its Custom plan. For SAP Business One, check consolidation and inter-company setup with the partner, as it depends on configuration and add-ons.
